The charming fishing villages, pretty harbours, and rolling countryside of Devon and Cornwall have attracted visitors for generations! Based in historic Plymouth, this mid-week break offers the perfect blend of sea air, dramatic biomes, and secret garden trails. From the world-famous Eden Project to the mysterious Lost Gardens of Heligan, let us handle all the driving and parking while you sit back and soak up the southwestern charm.
Snapshot Itinerary:
- Day 1: Travel south to our hotel in Plymouth, settling in for dinner and a relaxing evening.
- Day 2: A day at the world-famous Eden Project. Explore the two enormous glass biomes filled with global plant life.
- Day 3: A leisurely day in Plymouth, Britain’s Ocean City. Enjoy shopping, explore centuries of history at Plymouth Hoe and the Barbican, or set sail on a delightful 1-hour harbour cruise detailing the local naval heritage.
- Day 4: Travel to the Lost Gardens of Heligan, amazingly uncovered after 70 years of neglect. In the afternoon, we recommend a visit to the picturesque fishing village of Mevagissey.
- Day 5: Homeward bound with wonderful memories of the Southwest.
Excursion Highlights:
- The Eden Project – A Global Oasis: Wander through the Humid Tropics Biome (the world’s largest indoor rainforest with canopy walkways and waterfalls) and the sunny Mediterranean Biome filled with olive groves and fragrant vineyards.
- The Lost Gardens of Heligan – A Secret World Restored: Rediscovered in 1991 and restored to its Victorian glory, explore the 200-acre estate’s Jungle, rope bridges, walled gardens, and iconic moss-covered sculptures like The Mud Maid and The Giant’s Head.
