Dumfries and Galloway is a lesser-explored gem, and perhaps the easiest destination in Scotland to reach. A place of captivating beauty with its undulating coastline of rocky shoreline and sandy beaches – alongside acres of inland forest and green spaces – this mid-week break offers a wonderful blend of history, heritage, scenery, and local flavour.
Snapshot Itinerary:
- Day 1 – Travel to Dumfries: Journey north to Dumfries, arriving at the Holiday Inn with a warm welcome of tea/coffee, porter service, and a delicious 3-course dinner.
- Day 2 – Devil’s Porridge Museum & Annandale Distillery: Start the day with a visit to the Devil’s Porridge Museum to uncover local wartime history. In the afternoon, take a short drive to the award-winning Annandale Distillery for a guided tour and tasting.
- Day 3 – Guided Tour of the Solway Coast: Meet our guide for a full-day tour bringing the Scottish side of the Solway Firth to life. Discover historic harbours, beautiful gardens, and deep connections to Robert Burns.
- Day 4 – Drumlanrig Castle & Country Estate: Head into the Borders to explore Drumlanrig Castle. Take in the ‘Pink Palace’, browse the art collection, stroll the Victorian gardens, watch local crafters in the Stableyard Studios, or visit the Castle Tearoom. On the return journey, stop off in the historic town of Dumfries (time permitting).
- Day 5 – Homeward Journey: After breakfast, we begin our return journey home with wonderful memories of the Scottish Borders and Solway coast.
